Greek art might be called the cradle of Western classical art and also had a large influence on the Eastern art. It has his roots in the Cycladic and Minoan civilization, further developed in the Mycenaean era and climaxed through an Archaic and classical era in the Hellenistic art.
The Greek Bronze Age* 3300-1000 B.C. The Cycladic Islands and Cretan Art (Minoan) devided in Early (2800-2000), Middle (2000-1700) and Late
Minoan Art (1550-1400)
* 1600-1100 B.C.
Mycenaean art, devided in Sub-
Mycenaean Art (1100-1025), Proto-Geometric Art (1025-900) and Geometric Art (900-700)
Ancient Greek artGreek art can be divided roughly in three styles named after the historical period of the time it occured, allthough there was no sharp transition from one artistic period to another:
1* The archaic period 735 until 480 B.C. (Orientalizing Phase, Early, High and Late Archaic). The Persian Wars of 480 B.C. to 448 B.C. divide the Archaic from the Classical period.
2* The classic period 480 - 400 B.C. (Early Classical (480-450), High Classical (450-400) and Late Classical - 400-323 B.C.. The death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC devides the Classical from the Hellenistic period.
3* The Hellenistic period 400 B.C. until the Roman period, divided in Early Hellenistic (323-250), High Hellenistic (250-100) and Late Hellenistic (100-31).
